Salt Chlorinator Sizing Guide

Salt chlorinators generate sanitizer as pool water passes through the cell. Proper sizing is about having enough chlorine-production capacity for the pool's real demand without requiring the cell to operate at maximum output continuously.

Do not size only to the advertised maximum pool size

The manufacturer's maximum pool rating is a starting point. Warm water, intense sunlight, swimmer load, rain and organic debris can increase chlorine demand.

North Georgia considerations

Summer heat, thunderstorms and spring organic load can create periods of elevated sanitizer demand. Selecting reasonable reserve capacity can give the system more operating flexibility.

Water balance still matters

A salt system does not eliminate water testing. pH, alkalinity, stabilizer and other chemistry parameters still need management, and the cell itself requires inspection and maintenance according to manufacturer instructions.

Confirm compatibility

Check flow requirements, plumbing size, automation compatibility, electrical requirements and the manufacturer's installation instructions.
